A pair of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses. Mountain scenery. Seasonal tournaments for members. Tee settings for a wide range of skill levels. It’s all part of the golf experience at Las Campanas, where the Sunrise and Sunset courses are capable of challenging experts as well as stirring the enthusiasm of newcomers.
The Sunrise Course, which opened in 1993, was the 100th career design for the Golden Bear. The Sunset Course, unveiled in 2000, shares the aesthetic beauty of its sister course, where elevated tees allow for views of the nearby Sangre de Cristo range.
Golf Digest’s
2007 golf course rankings just placed the Sunset Course as No. 1 in the State of New Mexico and the Sunrise Course as No. 4. These two courses each have also been ranked on
Golfweek’s
list of the top 12 courses in the Southwest. Additional features include a 19-acre practice facility with driving range, putting green and two chipping greens.
Sunrise and Sunset reflect Nicklaus’ ability to embrace the character of the natural landscape, while integrating a risk-and-reward design. The conditions and surroundings even prompted Nicklaus to say “I might like to play it every day of the year.” Las Campanas was the site in 2001 of Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, where Nicklaus and fellow golf legend Ben Crenshaw competed in the tournament.
