Starting with the Renegade Course in 1987, The Lyle Anderson Company has established Desert Mountain—now home to six acclaimed 18-hole courses—as a model for championship desert golf. Not only is this place the single-largest concentration of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses in the world, but it offers tremendous variety. According to the legendary golf champion and designer himself, players “won't have to go anywhere else in the world to enjoy a constantly new, challenging game.”
Renegade, as its name suggests, rejects conventional layout. The greens feature two cups and two pins, and some holes even provide two greens, lending to Renegade’s reputation as “The most versatile course in the world.” Desert Mountain’s other courses are award-winning in their own rights. Cochise, Geronimo, Chiricahua, Apache, and Outlaw, have each earned recognition and praise in golf circles, and underline The Robb Report’s designation of Desert Mountain as the “World’s Best Golf Community.”
The eyes of the golfing world were opened to Desert Mountain in 1989, when it became the home of The Tradition. The tournament, played on the Cochise Course, became a major on the then-Senior PGA Tour and continued here through 2001. Cochise features a rare “double-island” green, shared by the par-three 7th hole and the par-five 15th.
Practice facilities abound, including four separate practice ranges. Desert Mountain is also the home club of hall-of-fame teacher Jim Flick, Ambassador of Golf for The Lyle Anderson Company. A world-class Junior Golf Program, supervised by Flick, is based here. But most of all, Desert Mountain may be home to some of the most memorable golf in the world. |
