Desert Highlands, located at the foot of the grand Pinnacle Peak, opened in 1982 as the first product of the Lyle Anderson-Jack Nicklaus partnership. The course quickly gained worldwide recognition when it hosted to the PGA Skins Game in 1983 and 1984. Constantly upgraded since its debut, the course continues to garner honors among the best courses in the country from the golf magazines.
Two holes at Desert Highlands, the 356-yard, par-four 1st, and the 570-yard, par-five 17th, have been praised among the “Top 500 Holes in the World” by Golf Digest magazine. It’s also a course where you’ll recognize the distinct style and design touches that have become Nicklaus trademarks, including deep bunkers, dramatic elevated tees and greens, split fairways and long carries.
The par-72, 7,072-yard course reflects a “target golf” concept, with desert terrain bordering the fairways and greens, and a limited amount of turf adds to the visual drama of the layout. There are ample tee selections, with five sets of men’s tees and three sets of ladies tees. An extensive 18-hole putting course provides more than 60,000 square feet of putting surface, and a pitching area and driving range rounds out a superb golf experience. |
